Job description

The Cardiovascular Technologist - H&V Specialist will provide continuous, comprehensive care to adult and geriatric invasive cardiology and peripheral angiography patients. This role requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to ensure standards of care and customer service are met. The technologist performs angiographic procedures, including invasive vascular treatments and examinations, ensuring optimal image quality. Care is delivered based on the model of care for TCH, fostering ongoing partnerships between patients, families, and the healthcare team. The care approach is culturally sensitive and age-specific.

Job Responsibilities

1. Understand signs, symptoms, and data related to the patient's presenting needs.
2. Recognize and report abnormal data and changes in the patient's condition to the physician and charge RN.
3. Use appropriate handoff methods to communicate pertinent patient data to other healthcare team members.
4. Assess patient, family, and environment for safety risks and implement safety initiatives.
5. Provide ongoing, individualized education to patients and families in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
6. Demonstrate critical thinking by reviewing physician orders, making referrals, and consulting other health professionals as needed.
7. Respond effectively to emergency situations requiring immediate action.
8. Implement infection control measures, including the use of protective equipment, to prevent disease transmission.
9. Assist as a scrub technician to cardiologists/radiologists, adhering to sterile techniques and supporting diagnostic/interventional procedures.
10. Set up sterile trays and specialized equipment according to the procedure.
11. Maintain hemostasis post-procedure using appropriate devices and recognize potential issues at insertion sites.
12. Maintain competency in arterial and venous sheath removal and groin management.
13. Follow department policies on radiation safety while operating x-ray equipment.
14. Ensure proper radiation protection for patients and staff, including the use of lead shields and protective gear.
15. Screen females of childbearing age for pregnancy.
16. Wear radiation dosimetry badges, exchange monthly, and review reports.

Required Skills & Experience

1. 1-2 years of relevant experience in the field.
2. Strong understanding of cardiovascular and peripheral anatomy, especially for complex ablations.
3. Meet ongoing education and training requirements.
4. Participate in on-call coverage as needed.
5. High professionalism and ability to build good relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.
6. Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.

Additional Requirements: Minimum 1 year of Cath Lab experience with scrub and x-ray skills. Must have Impella device experience. Preferred experience includes peripheral vascular and structural heart procedures. Experience in larger hospitals is advantageous. ACLS certification is preferred but not mandatory. Applicants must upload proof of an Ohio Radiologic License within 7 days of accepting an offer, or the offer may be rescinded.

Schedule Notes

Duration: 8 weeks. Shift: 4x10-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Plus on-call from 5 PM to 7 AM during weekdays, and weekend call from 7 AM Saturday to 7 AM Monday, with a 30-minute response time for emergencies.
