Job summary

Virtua Health is seeking a perfusionist to join our cardiovascular surgical team in New Jersey. You will operate the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgeries and manage metabolic and physiologic needs of patients.

The role requires board certification or eligibility and completion of an accredited perfusion program; 2 years of experience preferred, and on-call availability. This is a part-time, on-site position with competitive hourly rate and benefits, offering collaboration with experienced

Qualifications

• Board certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or board eligible and must become board certified within two years of graduation from an accredited perfusion program.
• Successfully completed training from an accredited perfusion program.
• New grads tenure contingent on passing the ABCP exam.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for preparation of the heart-lung machine and any other equipment critical to the specific operation.
• Continuously monitor the patient's status to manage the rate of blood circulation, balance the hemodynamics, maintain body temperature, stabilize blood composition and oversee other monitoring devices.
• Carry out pharmacological interventions or blood transfusions as directed by primary surgeon.
• Keep surgical team informed of the patient's condition throughout the surgery.
• Responsible for measuring various blood parameters and other indicators to identify appropriate mechanical intervention techniques, appropriate pharmacological treatments, and precise thermal manipulation techniques needed to maintain a viable physiological condition in the patient.
• Must have a thorough knowledge of the equipment available to perform extracorporeal circulation function.
• Consult with the surgeon to help in selecting the appropriate equipment and techniques to be utilized during surgery.
