Job summary

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is hiring an experienced CVOR RN with at least two years of specialized CVOR experience. The role supports adult cardiac surgery and pediatric cases within IHVI and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, offering a dynamic, state-of-the-art operating room environment.

Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance are available. Full-time day shifts with on-call and weekend/holiday rotation are required to support a premier cardiovascular program in Northern Virginia.

Qualifications

• Requires a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of direct Cardiovascular Operating Room (OR) experience.
• BSN or ADN from an accredited school; if ADN, BSN within 5 years of start date.
• Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a RN.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient assessments in the CVOR and synthesizes data for care plans.
• Develops individualized plans of care based on assessments and trends.
• Supports patients and families through the healthcare continuum from promotion to recovery.
• Advocates for patients’ rights and counsels families to resolve issues as needed.
• Assesses ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families and supports staff learning.

The Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) at Inova Fairfax Medical is hiring an experienced CVOR RN! We are seeking a Registered Nurse with at least two years of specialized CVOR experience to join our team. Our program has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as “High Performing” in heart bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Work Schedule

Full time; Day shift (10hr shifts or 13hr shifts). Must be available to take call and rotate weekends, holidays and off-shifts.

The CVOR is located on the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus within the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute (IHVI) for adult cardiac surgery and Inova Women’s and Children’s Hospital for pediatric/congenital cardiac surgery. The CVORs are state of the art with Stryker integrated video and a Philips (Single Plane) Hybrid OR with a total of 7 operating rooms serving all cardiac surgery needs including thoracic organ transplant (heart and lung), mechanical circulatory support, structural heart, congenital, and advanced aortic surgery.

CVOR Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.


• Formulates individualized plans of care based upon assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.


• Supports and empowers patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions.


• Advocates for patients’ rights from the patient/family perspective and provides counsel and acts as a resource to resolve issues.


• Anticipates ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients/families and assists staff in assessing patients’ learning needs.

CVOR Registered Nurse Requirements

• Experience: Requires a minimum of 2 years of direct Cardiovascular Operating Room (OR) experience as a Registered Nurse


• Preferred Additional Experience: AORN's Periop 101 curriculum completion


• Education: BSN or ADN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date


• License: Must be licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse


• Certification: Basic Life Support with American Heart Association
