Summary
The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CVIS) will utilize professional cardiovascular theory, technology, and processes to implement direct patient care on adult patients requiring diagnostic or therapeutic procedures within the cardiovascular service. Demonstrates role-specific competence and assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Cath Lab, EP Lab, and Hybrid OR. Specializes in the care of patients undergoing angioplasty, stent placement, vascular procedures, mechanical support device placement (IABP, non-durable ventricular assist device, etc.), EP devices, cardiac ablations, and tilt table exams.
Work Performed
Meets the duties and responsibilities of Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist I. Plans, provides, and documents care of cardiovascular invasive lab patients according to physician orders and established policies and procedures. Uses professional clinical judgment to assist the provider in planning patient care based on diagnosis, needs, and response to care. Works efficiently by prioritizing tasks to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes. Ensures the quality and accuracy of data and reports variances to the provider.
Operates, inspects, troubleshoots, and performs routine maintenance for invasive lab equipment. Prepares procedure rooms and equipment for daily use and each procedure, ensuring sufficient stock to accommodate routine case volumes. Conducts in-room inventory and supply management, storing all patient care products according to The Joint Commission regulations. Documents, retrieves, and verifies data necessary for patient records. Participates in professional development, performance improvement activities, and supports team collaboration to individualize care plans.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrates skill in applying and modifying principles, methods, and techniques of professional cardiovascular technology. Able to identify problems and recommend appropriate solutions. Knowledge of medical and cardiovascular equipment, safety hazards, and infection control procedures. Able to perform, instruct, and troubleshoot technical skills. Effective communication with team members, patients, and providers. Ability to use fine motor skills, sensory and cognitive functions, and computer software. Able to establish effective working relationships, communicate effectively, and remain organized and focused during prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires a graduate of an associate or baccalaureate program in health science (e.g., cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy) or an unrelated field plus a cardiovascular technology certificate. Experience requirements vary by level. Certifications such as RCIS, RCES, ARRT, or IBHRE are required depending on the level, along with BLS and ACLS certifications. Pre-employment physical capacity testing is required.
