$86,650.99 - $134,309.04 The Supervisor is part of the selection process which reviews, research, attends VAT, works closely with vendor, becomes super user, assists with planning for deployment to staff, learns troubleshooting and assists with evaluations and launches.
The Supervisor interviews all new hires in the CVT, MIT and Structural Heart CVT roles, provides orientation materials and assigns preceptors, grants staff access to security and IT systems, maintains scheduling and timecards, conducts promotional and annual performance reviews, completes corrective actions, management of on call schedules and compliance.
Creation/modification of daily staffing assignments as needed, participates in daily huddle, manages kronos and signing off of timecards, attends bed meeting and other managerial meetings, daily rounding, performs APRs, maintains the hemo systems and acts as superuser, maintains Cath/EP PACS database, primary troubleshooter for all x-ray equipment and hemo system.
Acts as Charge role, CVT and MIT as needed.
Education:
- Minimum of an associate degree or graduate of an approved Cardiovascular training program or graduate from an accredited Allied Health Program. Possession of licensure/certification as a practical or registered nurse, Radiologic Technologist, or cardiovascular technologist and at least 4 years of work experience in a hospital or clinical setting is required.
Licensure, Certification & Registration:
- Must hold current New York State registration or possess a limited permit to practice in the State of New York as an RN,RT, or LPN or possess certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
- Current BLS Certification required.
- ACLS and PALS Certification preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years in the cardiovascular specialty.
- Expert in normal vs. abnormal anatomy, physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies, and equipment operation.
- Expert knowledge of the perfusion and hemodynamics of the heart.
- Serves as an expert, and independently performs and interprets all electrocardiograms.
- Serves as an expert for all diagnostic and PCI procedures performed in the department.
- Serves as an expert for the equipment being utilized intra-procedure.

- Is the primary educator for all roles of the Technologists in the Cardiac Cath and EP lab.

Strategic and Operational Planning
- Provides patient care according to the age and special characteristics of patients in assigned areas. This department serves patients from pediatrics up to geriatrics.
- Reviews the patient’s medical records and lab results to ensure procedural safety requirements are met.
- Provides information to patients and families related to the details and process of the procedure. Prepares the procedural site via clipping/hair removal and application of antimicrobial agents. Prepares the environment of care through set up of a sterile field.
- Actively participates in Time Out and Universal Protocol procedures.
- Ensures the availability and proper function of emergency equipment and resuscitation devices. Demonstrates the skills of procedural scrubbing, donning, and doffing gown and gloves, and maintenance of the sterile field.
- Demonstrates safe passage of instruments and supplies to and from the Interventional Cardiologist during the procedure Independently manipulates catheters and/or wires through the cardiovascular space under radiologic visualization at the direction of the Interventional Cardiologist.
- Independently removes arterial and venous catheters and sheaths, at the direction of the Interventional Cardiologist Independently applies procedure site dressings and/or manual pressure for hemostasis management utilizing clean and sterile techniques at the direction of the Interventional Cardiologist.
- Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
- Assists in the cleaning and preparation of procedural rooms and equipment between procedures, restocking supplies when necessary.
- Monitors fluoroscopy exposures during the procedure Analyzes heart rhythm and pressure waveforms, reporting significant changes in patient condition to the team.
- Independently performs 12 lead EKG, including download.
- Retrieves radiologic images captured during the procedure.
- Documents all care provided in the patient’s medical record.
Quality Improvement
- Supports a system that encourages the identification and analysis of errors and near misses in the context of a safety culture.
- Is aware of and compliant with all hospital and regulatory agency safety goals and objectives as well as limitations of certification.
- Works collaboratively with the patient care team to identify process improvement opportunities to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Demonstrates accountability for self-development and evidence-based knowledge in the specialty. Participates in unit-based committees and shared governance, collaborating to meet established objectives.
- Participates and takes the lead on the development, monitoring, and reporting of one quality initiative per year.
Educational Leadership
- Develops CVT,MIT/Scrub role comprehensive training program for new hires with/without experience and RN’s that wish to learn to scrub, monitor, or circulate.
- Will create training materials for staff education and posting.
- Will work closely with cardiovascular technicians III’s and MIT IV’s in training of all employees.
- Will participate on the education committee to help with educating other staff in the department about Cardiac Cath procedures.
Hospital-wide Leadership
- Works with management team to develop and employ at least one cost savings initiative per year.
- Is involved in at least one hospital wide committee and brings information obtained back to the team for dissemination.
Patient Safety
- Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations Ensures all documentation is complete for each patient’s chart in accordance with regulatory compliance.
- Incorporates safe patient handling into the positioning and transfer of patients.
- Verifies correct labeling of procedural solutions, medication, and specimens with the RN or other licensed healthcare provider.
- For applicable cases, performs procedural count with an RN circulator, and ensures accuracy in accordance with law, policy, procedure, and regulation.
- Manages alarms for which the Tech is responsible.
