Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CVIS) will utilize professional cardiovascular theory, technology, and processes to implement direct patient care on adult patients requiring diagnostic or therapeutic procedures within the cardiovascular service. Demonstrates role-specific competence and assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the CathLab, EP Lab, and Hybrid OR. Specializes in the care of patients undergoing angioplasty, stent placement, vascular procedures, mechanical support device placement (IABP, non-durable ventricular assist device, etc.), EP devices, cardiac ablations, and tilt table exams.

Work Performed

  • Meet the duties and responsibilities of Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist I.
  • Plan, provide, and document care of cardiovascular invasive lab patients according to physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Use professional clinical judgment to assist the provider in planning patient care based on diagnosis, needs, and response to care.
  • Prioritize tasks to ensure efficient and effective patient care, meet case volumes, and address patient care issues.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of data and reports, and report variances to the provider.
  • Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance for invasive lab equipment. Initiate maintenance or service requests for damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Prepare procedure rooms and equipment for daily use and each procedure, ensuring sufficient stock for routine case volumes.
  • Conduct in-room inventory and supply management, storing patient care products according to Joint Commission regulations.
  • Document, retrieve, and verify data necessary for patient records.
  • Participate in professional development, performance improvement activities, and support the development of other staff and learners.
  • Adhere to standards including policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and patient safety goals.
  • Collaborate with team members to individualize care plans and serve as a resource for advanced skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrate skill in applying and modifying principles, methods, and techniques of professional cardiovascular technology.
  • Identify problems and aberrations in patient processes and recommend solutions.
  • Knowledge of medical and cardiovascular equipment and safety hazards.
  • Perform, instruct, and troubleshoot technical skills.
  • Effective communication with team members, patients, and providers.
  • Leadership in clinical practice, staff development, and departmental support roles.
  • Use of fine motor skills, sensory and cognitive functions for prioritizing information and treatment.
  • Proficiency with computers and learning new software.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare team.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, stay focused, and remain organized.
  • Knowledge of procedures for routine and special treatments, infection control, and safety precautions.

Education: Graduate of an associate or baccalaureate program in health science or related field with additional cardiovascular technology or radiologic certification.

Certifications: RCIS, RCES, ARRT, IBHRE, and BLS/ACLS as specified, with certain certifications required within specified timeframes.
