Job summary

BAS Healthcare, Inc. seeks an Advanced Practitioner / Physician Assistant in Cardiothoracic Surgery to support postoperative care in a high-acuity hospital setting in the Boston area.

Responsibilities include surgical first assist, daily progress notes, and 24/7 in-house coverage with a multidisciplinary team. Massachusetts PA licensure and CT surgery experience are required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Massachusetts licensure as a Physician Assistant required.
• 2–5 years of Cardiothoracic Surgery experience preferred.
• Current BCLS or ACLS certification required.
• Influenza vaccination required.
• Ability to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.

• Manage Post-operative Cardiothoracic Surgery patients in the Progressive Care Unit and Telemetry Unit under a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
• Perform history and physical examinations, daily progress notes, and discharge summaries.
• Coordinate inpatient consultations, admissions, and follow-up care.
• Participate in 24/7 in-house coverage and OR first assist calls.

Advanced Practitioner / Advance Practice Provider / Physician Assistant - Cardiothoracic Surgery

Job Details:

• Perform a variety of duties in the management of Post-operative Cardiothoracic Surgery patients in the Progressive Care Unit and Telemetry Unit under the direction of a Cardiothoracic Surgeon
• Conduct history and physical examinations, daily progress notes, and discharge summaries
• Manage inpatient and Emergency Room consultations and admissions
• Plan and coordinate all aspects of postoperative care and post-discharge follow-up
• Participate in coverage of the inpatient Telemetry, Progressive Care Unit, Operating Room, and Operating Room Night/Weekend on-call schedule rotation
• Provide in-house weekday, weekend, and night coverage on a rotating schedule as part of a team delivering 24/7 in-house coverage and OR first assist call
• Surgical first assist with both Cardiac and Thoracic surgical procedures
• Perform Endoscopic Vein Harvest and Endoscopic and Open Radial Artery Harvest
• Familiarity with Robotic Thoracic Surgery required
• Proficient with the placement and removal of chest tubes, central and arterial lines
• Removal of temporary epicardial pacing wires, Swan-Ganz catheters, intra-aortic balloon pumps, sutures, and staples
• Manage postoperative Cardiothoracic Surgery patients including familiarity with ventilators, inotropes and vasoactive medications, and circulatory support devices
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required
• Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery required
• Active licensure in the state of Massachusetts required
• Current BCLS or ACLS certification required
• Ability to work collaboratively in a high-acuity, fast-paced multidisciplinary care environment
• Influenza (flu) vaccination required as a condition of employment
