Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC seeks a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide advanced patient care in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU). The role involves collaboration with cardiac anesthesiology, direct patient care for complex cardiothoracic and heart failure patients, and perioperative management under supervision of CTICU physicians.

Primary hours are 12‑hour rotations, seven days per week including holidays.

Qualifications

• NP: Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program for adult care.
• PA: Graduate of accredited Masters or Doctorate Degree Physician Assistant Program.

Responsibilities

• Provide/coordinate clinical care for cardiothoracic surgery patients in the CTICU under supervision and established protocols.
• Perform daily patient rounds with the team to assess status, diagnose, plan treatment, and monitor outcomes.
• Perform procedures as indicated including airway management, ventilator management, chest tube care, arterial/central line placement and removal, and hemodynamic support.
• Collaborate with supervising physicians and multidisciplinary staff to develop care plans and ensure timely patient discharge.
