Summary
Northport VAMC is seeking a full-time, Non-Invasive Board Certified Cardiologist. The Northport VA Medical Center supports the Network 2 Mission to provide compassionate and excellent care for Veterans. A recruitment incentive is available for highly qualified applicants.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensure may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements under previous standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- The degree must be from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of graduation.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or other programs deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet other requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), but they must be fully licensed and are not considered independent practitioners.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Duties
- The Northport VA Healthcare System seeks an experienced, full-time, non-invasive Cardiologist (M.D. or D.O.), board-certified.
- Responsibilities include overseeing all cardiac care aspects for referred patients and participating in outpatient cardiology clinics.
- The Cardiologist will manage, educate, and counsel Veterans on preventative and evidence-based cardiac care while supervising outpatient procedures.
- The facility offers services such as EKG, arrhythmia monitoring, echocardiograms, stress tests, transesophageal echocardiograms, and cardioversions.
- Establish professional relationships with outpatient service providers, provide consultations, and review procedural requests for appropriateness.
