Summary

Northport VAMC is seeking a full-time, board-certified Non-Invasive Cardiologist. The Northport VA Medical Center supports the Network 2 Mission to provide compassionate and excellent care to Veterans. A recruitment incentive is available for highly qualified applicants.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or license requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who initially met the requirements under previous standards are considered qualified.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified U.S. citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
• Licensure: Full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Completion of an accredited residency program approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by the ACGME or AOA, or other recognized programs with at least five years of verified U.S. practice.
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA residencies and meeting other requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work under supervision.
• English Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
• Board Certification: Must be board-certified, as per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2.
• Physical Requirements: As outlined in VA Handbook 5019.

Duties

• Provide comprehensive cardiac care at Northport VA Healthcare System, overseeing outpatient cardiology services.
• Consult, manage, and educate Veterans on preventative and evidence-based cardiac care, supervising outpatient procedures.
• Perform outpatient cardiology services including EKG, arrhythmia monitoring, echocardiograms, stress tests, transesophageal echocardiograms, and cardioversions.
• Establish professional relationships with clinical providers, provide consultations, and screen procedural requests for appropriateness.
