Job summary

Olathe Health's Cardiology Department seeks a Cardiovascular Procedures RN to provide nursing care across stress testing and advanced cardiovascular procedures. The role includes coordination with the cardiovascular center and collaboration with the care team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Hours are days, Monday–Friday, with 8-hour shifts; coverage aligns with center hours 6:30–4:30. Requires BLS and active RN licensure and multi-state or single-state endorsement as applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Nursing required.
• Minimum 2 years RN experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate emergency situations and initiate interventions with physician input.
• Maintain physician patient lists and coordinate with rounding nurses and ARNPs.
• Assess discharge needs with care coordinator for home care and meds.
• Follow policies on Amiodarone and Coumadin management; educate on meds.
• Review labs and x-ray reports; document results in EMR.
• Perform venipunctures and EKGs as needed.
• Arrange follow-up appointments and coordinate with CV clinic.
• Communicate with outpatient cardiology staff for management.
• Support efforts to optimize length of stay and disease management.
• Perform professional, clinical, and technical competencies of the unit.

Position Summary / Career Interest

Cardiovascular procedures nurses will be trained to help cover stress testing, but their role will include more procedures: Transesophageal Echocardiograms, Cardioversions, Tilt Tables, CCTAs, and NIPS.

Hours: Days M-F 8-hour shifts. Shifts will vary to cover the Cardiovascular Center hours of operation 6:30-4:30.

The Cardiology Nurse provides professional nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation for the comfort and well-being of patients. Carries out a plan of care specific to unit competencies for the target patient population. Coordinates care deliver through collaboration with all health care team providers to ensure safe, effective and quality patient care.

Responsibilities And Essential Job Functions

• Critically evaluate emergency situations and initiate appropriate intervention; collaborates with physician for recommendations to address patient’s problems or questions.
• Facilitates efficient patient workflow in clinic setting. Maintain physicians’ patient list and answer consult page; collaborate with other rounding nurses, and ARNP’s in triage of new admissions, consults and discharges.
• Assess and evaluate patients for discharge planning; work with care coordinator to facilitate home assessment, home care, medications, education, nutrition and follow-up.
• Follows policies/procedures regarding Amiodarone and Coumadin management and follow-up. Educates patient/family on new medication therapy.
• Reviews all labs, x-ray reports; enter data in the electronic medical record (EMR), report results and physician recommendations to patient as needed.
• Perform venipunctures and perform EKG’s when necessary.
• Arrange for follow-up appointments through central scheduling and CV follow-up form.
• Communicate with appropriate outpatient cardiology staff for outpatient management.
• Support initiatives to meet appropriate length of stay and disease management outcomes; facilitate timely discharge of patients.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education And Experience

• Bachelor Degree Nursing
• 2 or more years of RN experience.

Required Licensure And Certification

• Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing - in state in which you live OR
• Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing - active with multistate in progress with proof of application
• Must have current active multistate state Register Nurse (RN) license in good standing in state in which you live OR active single state RN license in good standing in the state you will be working with proof of application of a multistate RN license in the state in which you live. Staff hired prior to 2/1/2024 are required to obtain a multistate state RN license from the state in which they live at the time of their next RN license renewal by 4/30/2026.
• Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
