Job summary

Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs in Reno, NV seeks a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner to provide expert outpatient and inpatient care, perform exams, develop treatment plans, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.

You will teach patients and families, participate in clinical research, and contribute to quality improvement and care pathways within cardiology services.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates medical cardiology and multidisciplinary staff in the delivery of complex outpatient and inpatient care including patient evaluation, performing or arranging diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, triage, admissions scheduling, and data collection.
• Provides teaching to patients and family as needed
• Serves as consultant to multidisciplinary staff in problem solving for complex care plans
• Develops and uses practice guidelines or clinical pathways to streamline multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment
• Acts as a point of contact for cardiology patients at all stages of treatment
• Provides direct patient care in outpatient clinics, including history, exams, and developing treatment plans
• Consults with attending cardiologist on complex outpatient cardiology issues
• Collaborates on non-nuclear and nuclear tests with the attending cardiologist
• Assists with the cardiology device clinic, including programming and post-implantation site assessment
• Involved with National Cardiac Device Surveillance Program
• Makes appropriate assessments and referrals for specialized patient needs
• Facilitates consultations and care in cardiology clinics and follow-up
• Supports ongoing clinical research with study coordinators and research nurses
• Participates in quality improvement activities and monitoring of guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned
