Job summary

DHR Health in McAllen, TX is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Cardiology Group Shared. The position supports physicians with patient intake, history taking, vitals, and exam room preparation, under supervision, with responsibilities across front and clinical tasks.

The ideal candidate will have high school education or GED, MA certification, and BLS within 30 days, plus proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong communication. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School/GED preferred.
• Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred.
• Two (2) years’ experience in clinical setting most desirable.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.
• Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms well stocked, neat and clean.
• Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
• Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
• Answer calls and return patient phone calls in a timely manner each day.
• Translate for patient/provider, as needed.
• Assist with diagnostic testing appointments for patients.
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients, as needed.
