Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Heart Hospital in Norfolk, VA is hiring a Cardiac Surgical Assistant I to support complex open-heart procedures and high-volume CVOR cases. The role involves intraoperative duties, preop and postop support, and close collaboration with a dedicated cardiac surgery team.

The position requires graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant Program, state licenses, BLS, and seeks candidates with cardiac experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant Program.
• Surgical Assistant license required for practice.
• Virginia Surgical Assistant License required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Cardiac experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon with equipment selection and table setup.
• Provide tissue retraction for visualization of the surgical site.
• Cauterize bleeding vessels and suture/close incisions.
• Instill medications and apply dressings, splints, casts as needed.
• Perform preop and postop duties to facilitate patient care.
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team for optimal outcomes.
