Job summary

AdventHealth in Burleson, Texas, is seeking a dedicated staff member to support cardiac stress testing services. You will greet patients, prepare them for procedures, ensure accurate EKG tracings, and assist with scheduling and follow-up communications.

This role emphasizes patient safety and clear communication with families and physicians. The position requires knowledge of treadmill-based tests, monitoring systems, and the ability to recognize arrhythmias.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of applicable experience required
• BLS required
• CCT or RCIS pathways preferred/parity with certification
• ACLS preferred

Responsibilities

• Greet and prep patients for cardiac stress testing with history, skin prep, and EKG lead placement.
• Ensure proper EKG tracing before stress testing begins.
• Maintain understanding of nuclear medicine, stress echo, and treadmill exams; answer patient questions and coordinate follow-up.
• Screen and respond to patient needs; prepare departmental charts for tests.
• Participate in education, meetings, and quality initiatives.

Job Description:

• Greets and prepares patients for cardiac stress testing with appropriate history, proper skin preparation, and EKG lead placement.
• Evaluates patients to ensure proper EKG tracing is obtained prior to beginning any stress testing.
• Maintains understanding of nuclear medicine procedures, stress echo, and treadmill exams to answer patient questions and perform history screening. Informs patients and their families of anticipated or completed procedures and appropriate follow-up with physicians and schedulers.
• Screens, communicates, and responds to patient needs timely and appropriately. Prepares departmental charts for nuclear, stress echo, and treadmill exams in a timely manner, including required information and screening for potential conflicts.
• Actively participates in continuing education, required meetings, and committees as requested, supporting quality standards and initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned. Reviews patient charts for contraindicate medications prior to exams and maintains understanding of cardiac and hypertensive medications that could interfere with cardiac stress testing. Demonstrates working knowledge of medication administration used in the stress lab and recognizes potential emergency situations.
• Ensures safety of self, staff, and patients by following safety procedures, verifying patient identification, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. Acquires EKG tracings and blood pressure during stress exams and evaluates patients for changes in EKG, blood pressure, fatigue, respiratory compromise, and chest tightness or pressure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the treadmill and monitoring systems standard tests and procedures, and typical readings including arrhythmias and abnormalities. [Required]
• Knowledge of typical patient reactions and signs of distress including the ability to recognize, report and treat potentially lethal arrhythmias. [Required]
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart and cardiac medications. [Required]
• Able to independently perform tests [Required]
• Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements. [Required]

Education:

• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
• Associate degree [Preferred]

Field of Study:

• graduate or equivalent
• Completion of a CCT or CVT program or equivalent ECG certificate program.

Work Experience:

• 1+ previous applicable experience [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:

• Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS) [Required]
• Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) [Required] OR
• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist [Required] (RCIS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) [Preferred]
