Job summary

GHR Healthcare is seeking a Cardiac Stepdown Travel Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week assignment in Bloomington, Illinois. This inpatient acute care role supports a 32-bed unit with a 3–4 patient nurse-to-patient ratio, three 12-hour night shifts weekly, and EPIC/Pyxis documentation and medication systems.

The ideal candidate will hold an Illinois RN license (or eligibility), have at least 1 year of relevant experience, and possess BLS and ACLS certifications.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Illinois (or eligibility).
• At least 1 year of professional nursing experience; cardiac stepdown/ICU/acute care preferred.
• Ability to interpret cardiac telemetry and changes in patient condition.
• Comfort with chest tubes and other complex devices; BLS and ACLS required.
• Ability to work rotating weekends/holidays and float as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for cardiac, respiratory, neurological, renal and surgical patients.
• Monitor telemetry, manage critical treatments, and document in EPIC.
• Administer medications safely and communicate concerns to the care team.
• Support unit operations, patient safety, and family education.
• Float to other units as needed within competency.

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois, or eligibility to obtain one
• At least 1 year of professional nursing experience; cardiac stepdown, intermediate care, telemetry, or acute care experience preferred
• Ability to interpret cardiac telemetry and recognize changes in patient condition
• Comfort caring for patients with chest tubes and other complex medical devices
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Ability to work rotating weekends and holidays and float as needed within the nurse’s competency

Travel RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with cardiac, respiratory, neurological, renal, endocrine, infectious, and surgical conditions.
• Care for patients with COPD, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, DKA, pneumonia, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, renal disease, and other complex diagnoses.
• Monitor and manage patients requiring telemetry, BiPAP, CPAP, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, central lines, and post-procedure care.
• Care for patients returning from ablation procedures, cardiac catheterization, dialysis, and other higher-acuity treatments.
• Recognize changes in patient condition, interpret telemetry findings, and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate members of the care team.
• Administer medications and treatments safely while documenting care accurately in EPIC.
• Maintain patient safety, participate in interdisciplinary care planning, and educate patients and families.
• Float to general medical floors or the intensive care unit when qualified and assigned, accepting patient workloads appropriate to the nurse’s demonstrated level of care.
