Job summary

The University of Toledo Health Science Campus is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer 2 to perform non-invasive cardiac tests including echocardiograms on adolescents and adults. You will assist with transesophageal and stress echocardiograms and maintain digital records in a high-quality patient care environment.

The role requires on-call availability, independence, and adherence to safety standards. A relevant degree and ARDMS registration are required, with CPR certification and non-invasive

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or higher required.
  • ARDMS registration in Adult Echocardiography required within 6 months if not already.
  • Computer knowledge required and CPR certification (AHA) required.
  • Experience in non-invasive cardiology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-invasive cardiac diagnostic tests including echocardiograms.
  • Assist physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms and stress echocardiography.
  • Maintain digital patient data and ensure safety and quality in testing.

Job Description

As a member of the health care team, performs non-invasive cardiac diagnostic testing including M-mode echocardiograms, 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional Sector scans, Cardiac Doppler, Colorflow Imaging, and measurement of Ejection Fraction by echocardiogram on patients who are adolescent, and adults at UTMC. Assists the physician in the performance of Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Performs Stress Exercise Echocardiograms in the Heart Station with the Stress Laboratory personnel. Maintains digital computer system.

1. Adheres to NPSG 09.02.01 by following the Morse Fall Scale to assess all patients for their risk of falling.
2. Adheres to NPSG 07.01.01 by effectively washing hands when going from one patient to the next.
Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately.
Department education and training focus has a direct impact on patient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions for employees.
Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment.
1. Recognizes Frayed Cord:
Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner.
Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken.
Reduces adverse results or impact to patient care and the employee.
2. Recognize exposure to Blood:
Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe work environment.
Safety concerns: The manager has been timely with staff training and education. Wiping up spills.
3. Follows standardized approach for handoff communication
Follows policy for communication including the opportunity to ask and respond to questions

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Education/Experience/Licensing:

  • Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or higher relevant degree required or ten (10) years of experience in performing Echocardiograms.
  • Must be registered for five (5) years and have performed Echocardiograms for five (5) years after being registered. The work experience must be recent, relevant and proficiency in independent performance of exams documented. Experience in school will not be counted.
  • Computer knowledge required.
  • AHA/CPR certification required in Basic Life Support Health Care Provider course identified by the Heart Station/Cardiology Clinic policy.
  • Experience in non-invasive cardiology preferred.

Communication and other skills:

  • Must be able to be on-call and work independently when called in.
  • Must be able to be on-call and be in to the hospital within 1 hour when called in.

MAY UNDERFILL WITH CARDIAC SONOGRAPHER 1

  • Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or higher relevant degree required
  • Must be registered in Adult Echocardiography through ARDMS or obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Computer knowledge required.
  • AHA/CPR certification required in Basic Life Support Health Care Provider
  • Experience in non-invasive cardiology preferred.
