Job summary

The University of Toledo is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer 2 to join the Heart Station at UTMC. You will perform non-invasive cardiac imaging including M-mode echocardiograms, 2-D/3-D sector scans, Doppler and measurements of ejection fraction, and assist with Transesophageal Echocardiograms.

Responsibilities include adherence to iCare standards, patient safety, and quality of care, with on-call duties and 1-hour hospital response.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or higher or ten years of echocardiograms experience.
• Registered for five years and performed echocardiograms for five years after registration.
• Computer knowledge required; basic life support (AHA/CPR) certification.
• Experience in non-invasive cardiology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs non-invasive cardiac testing including echocardiograms and Doppler; assists with Transesophageal Echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms.

Job Description

As a member of the health care team, performs non-invasive cardiacdiagnostic testing including M-mode echocardiograms, 2-Dimensionaland 3-Dimensional Sector scans, Cardiac Doppler, Colorflow Imaging,and measurement of Ejection Fraction by echocardiogram on patientswho are adolescent, and adults at UTMC. Assists the physician inthe performance of Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Performs StressExercise Echocardiograms in the Heart Station with the StressLaboratory personnel. Maintains digital computer system.

Responsibilities

• 1. Adheres to NPSG 09.02.01 by following the Morse Fall Scale toassess all patients for their risk of falling.
• 2. Adheres to NPSG 07.01.01 by effectively washing hands when goingfrom one patient to the next.
• Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues.Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handlesincidents per institutional and/or departmental policies andprocedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues werehandled timely and appropriately.
• Department education and training focus has a direct impact onpatient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions foremployees.
• Employee attends and follows all department specific safetyeducation and training in an effort to create a safe workenvironment.
• 1. Recognizes Frayed Cord: Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner. Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken. Reduces adverse results or impact to patient care and theemployee.
• 2. Recognize exposure to Blood: Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe workenvironment. Safety concerns: The manager has been timely with staff trainingand education. Wiping up spills.
• 3. Follows standardized approach for handoff communication Follows policy for communication including the opportunity to askand respond to questions

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities RequiredEducation/Experience/Licensing:

• Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or higher relevantdegree required or ten (10) years of experience in performingEchocardiograms.
• Must be registered for five (5) years and have performedEchocardiograms for five (5) years after being registered. The workexperience must be recent, relevant and proficiency in independentperformance of exams documented. Experience in school will not becounted.
• Computer knowledge required.
• AHA/CPR certification required in Basic Life Support Health CareProvider course identified by the Heart Station/Cardiology Clinicpolicy.
• Experience in non-invasive cardiology preferred.

Communication and other skills:

• Must be able to be on-call and work independently when calledin.
• Must be able to be on-call and be in to the hospital within 1hour when called in.
