Job summary

University Hospitals is seeking a Float Cardiac Sonographer II in Ohio. The role requires performing comprehensive echocardiography including 3D and strain, with on-call duties at times. You will mentor students and staff while ensuring accurate documentation and patient care across satellites.

Qualifications include 2+ years of echo experience, registry (RCS/ RDCS) upon hire, BLS, and ASE membership preferred. Expect a dynamic lab environment and compliance with PHI standards.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in echo, preferably in a tertiary care setting.
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) upon hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire
  • Member of ASE preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs m-Mode, 2-D, Doppler, CFM, and stress echocardiograms per lab standards at all satellites; 3D and strain echocardiography.
  • Maintains competency scanning ICU/OR/ER patients where applicable.
  • Mentors students and fellows; participates in rounds and on-call if applicable.
  • Completes documentation for accurate billing and data integrity.
  • Maintains a clean environment and ensures supply levels.
  • Alerts appropriate personnel to PHI safety and compliance requirements.

A Brief Overview

$5,000.00 sign-on bonus for eligible external hires

This position serves as a registered cardiac sonographer in the echocardiography laboratory and at the cardiology satellite offices. The cardiac sonographer II is required to perform all aspects of an echocardiographic exam, have a strong knowledge of cardiac pathology/echo equipment and work with students/staff. The cardiac sonographer II also contributes skills to assist with an efficient operation of the department. Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do

  • Performs clinical and basic research m-Mode, 2-D, CFM, Doppler, TEE (if applicable) Stress, Pharmacologic echocardiograms per lab standards at all satellites. Performs 3D and strain echocardiography.
  • Maintains competency in scanning all patient types (ICU/OR/ER), if applicable.
  • Requests assistance with a difficult measurement/study.
  • Recognizes cardiac pathology and life threatening situations and intervenes appropriately.
  • Mentors students and cardiology fellows (if applicable).
  • Participates in the on-call system (if applicable).
  • Performs EKG’s and Holter/Event monitors (if applicable).
  • Participates in rounds/conferences.
  • Completes documentation (written / computerized) including verification of demographic data to ensure proper billing.
  • Maintains a clean environment, and alerts the proper personnel when supplier are low.
  • Demonstrates behavior which impacts the productivity, efficiency, and quality of communication and collaboration in the department.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Initiates and directs projects/QI processes/problem solving initiatives with peers and/or hospital leadership.
  • Presents an echo related topic to peers.
  • Orients to TAVR echocardiography (if applicable).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and
  • Graduate of an approved Cardiovascular Technology or Cardiac Sonography Program (Required) or
  • Graduate of an approved Sonography Program with cross-training in echocardiography (Required)
  • Member of American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) (Preferred)
Work Experience
  • 2+ years Experience in echo, preferably in a tertiary care setting (Required)

  • Intermediate knowledge of cardiac pathology (Required proficiency)
