Job description

Cardiac Sonographer 1

Cardiac diagnostic testing including M-mode echocardiograms, 2‑D and 3‑D sector scans, cardiac Doppler, colour‑flow imaging and measurement of ejection fraction by echocardiogram on adolescent and adult patients at UTMC. Assists physicians in trans‑esophageal echocardiograms and performs stress‑exercise echocardiograms in the Heart Station with the stress laboratory personnel. Maintains digital computer system.

Responsibilities

• Perform non‑invasive cardiac diagnostic testing on adolescent and adult patients at UTMC.
• Assist physicians in the performance of trans‑esophageal echocardiograms.
• Perform stress‑exercise echocardiograms in collaboration with the stress laboratory personnel.
• Maintain the digital computer system.
• Adhere to UTMC Service Values, including iCare standards, at all times.
• Follow hospital policies and procedures, addressing patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues.
• Follow NPSG 09.02.01 by assessing patient fall risk using the Morse Fall Scale.
• Follow NPSG 07.01.01 by washing hands when moving from one patient to the next.
• Identify and address patient safety and quality of care issues, handling incidents per institutional or departmental policies.
• Participate in department safety education and training to promote a safe work environment.
• Recognize equipment malfunctions such as frayed cords and report them in a timely manner, ensuring alternative processes are in place to reduce adverse impacts on patient care.
• Recognize exposure to blood, working as a team to limit exposure and maintain a safe work environment.
• Follow standardized handoff communication procedures, allowing opportunities to ask and respond to questions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or higher relevant degree required.
• Registered in Adult Echocardiography through ARDMS or to obtain registration within six (6) months of hire.
• Computer knowledge required.
• AHA/CPR certification required in Basic Life Support Health Care Provider.
• Experience in non‑invasive cardiology preferred.
• Must be able to be on‑call and work independently when called in.
• Must be able to be on‑call and arrive at the hospital within one hour when called in.
