Job summary

The Cardiac Sonographer 2 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple performs basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound services, including transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress tests for adults. Responsibilities include preparing equipment, prepping patients, explaining procedures, reviewing images, reporting findings, and evaluating patient history to frame clinical questions. Hours are 7:30 a.m.

to 5 p.m. with extended on-call duties, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited technical or associate degree program in radiology.
• 2 years of professional experience with intermediate level echocardiography or vascular skills.
• Certification: Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or RDCS at time of hire.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures including transthoracic and transesophageal imaging.
• Prepare patients, review history, explain procedures, and report findings.
• Assist physicians in procedures and in the OR and coordinate ICAEL accreditation activities.
• Maintain echocardiography lab equipment and adhere to quality processes.

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple is looking for a full‑time Cardiac Sonographer 2 (Tier 2). The role includes a $10,000 sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance.

Job Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer 2 performs basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound services, including transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress tests for adults. Responsibilities include preparing equipment, prepping patients, explaining procedures, reviewing images, reporting findings, and evaluating patient history to frame clinical questions.

Essential Functions of the Role

• Prepare patients for procedures, obtain clinical history, and adapt imaging techniques for comprehensive echocardiograms.
• Perform basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures, including measurements for accurate, high‑quality results.
• Identify cardiac abnormalities and extend examinations as needed, correlating invasive and non‑invasive results with cardiac anatomy and function.
• Assist physicians in procedures and operating rooms by performing echocardiographic studies, and assist in performing transesophageal studies with cardiologists.
• Record statistics, maintain the echocardiography lab and its equipment, and report malfunctions.
• Act as a resource to staff, physicians, and students on equipment, techniques, and procedures.
• Work with the cardiac sonographer quality coordinator to ensure adherence to quality processes, and assist with ICAEL accreditation activities.
• Implement new protocols and ensure compliance with evolving system echocardiography standards.

Key Success Factors

• Knowledge and application of complex sonographic methods, instrumentation, and techniques.
• Deep knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
• Ability to explain the purpose of examinations and answer patient questions.
• Knowledge of approved clinical protocols for each cardiac ultrasound type.
• Knowledge of infection control and patient confidentiality laws.
• Excellent communication skills with healthcare providers.
• Medical terminology, computer, and equipment proficiency.

Schedule & Call Requirements

Hours are variable from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; extended hours and on‑call duties (including weekends and holidays) are required. Calls begin Friday 5:30 p.m. to Monday 7:00 a.m., and the sonographer must be on site within 1 hour.

Travel

Travel 1–2 times per month, occasionally transporting a portable ultrasound machine to continuing‑care facilities.
