Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is proud to offer a position for a Cardiac Sonographer at The Heart Hospital - Downtown Dallas. In this role, you will perform essential cardiac ultrasound procedures to support diagnosis, working closely with patients and healthcare providers.

The ideal candidate will have education from an accredited program or relevant work experience, along with appropriate certification. This role emphasizes patient care and proactive health management within a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited program or 2 years of work experience.
  • 2 years of experience in cardiac sonography.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures.
  • Identify cardiac abnormalities and adjust examination as necessary.
  • Assist physicians with echocardiograph studies.
  • Prepare patients and obtain clinical histories.
  • Perform daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab equipment.
  • Act as a resource to staff and other healthcare providers.

Job Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer 1 performs basic to intermediate cardiac ultrasound services for adults. These include transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress tests to diagnose cardiac issues. General duties include preparing equipment, prepping patients, and explaining procedures. They review images, report findings, and examine patient history to identify the examination's purpose. They frame the clinical question and expand the examination as needed to answer it.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Performs basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures using various equipment and techniques. Makes necessary measurements for accurate, high‑quality results.
  • Identifies and defines cardiac abnormalities. Extends the examination scope appropriately. Deviates from standard techniques when necessary. Correlates invasive and noninvasive cardiac test results with cardiac anatomy and function.
  • May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies to aid in complex procedures and decrease risk factors.
  • Assists in performing transesophageal studies with cardiologist, calculating appropriate measurements and sterilizes probe.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and obtain clinical history. Include cardiac‑related physical findings and pertinent lab data. Adjust imaging techniques to get comprehensive and diagnostic echocardiograms. This helps reduce the chance of incorrect clinical interpretation.
  • Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
  • Acts as a resource to other staff, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures and studies to optimize patient care.
  • Works closely with the cardiac sonographer quality coordinator to ensure quality processes and protocols are followed. Assists with IAC accreditation activities as delegated.
  • Implements protocols as new technology evolves, and ensures system echocardiography standards are implemented and adhered to.
Key Success Factors
  • Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation and techniques.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability explaining the purpose of the echocardiographic examination to the patient and answering patients' questions.
  • Knowledge of approved clinical protocols for each type of cardiovascular ultrasound examinations.
  • Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures. Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians, and nurses.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Skilled utilization of computers and medical equipment.

  • EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
  • EXPERIENCE - 2 Year of Experience
  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
    • Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
    • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS): Must have one of the following within 6 months of hire/transfer. RDCS through ARDMS or RCS through CCI.
