Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple seeks a multi-modality sonographer for on-site duties in Temple, TX. You will perform vascular and cardiac studies, primarily transthoracic Echo, while coordinating with physicians and fellows.

On-call duties include weekends/holidays and occasional travel with portable ultrasound equipment. Requirements include an accredited radiology education and two credentials (RCS or RDCS) plus RVT or RVS; two years of related experience and the ability to teach

Qualifications

  • Must be proficient in transthoracic echocardiography.
  • Graduate of an accredited Technical or Associates degree program in Radiology with 2 years’ professional experience in echocardiography or vascular skills.
  • Must have TWO of the: ACS/ARRT-S/ARRT-VI/RS/RVS credentials, plus two RVT or RDCS credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic to advanced ultrasound procedures across multiple modalities.
  • Identify and define abnormalities; adapt examinations as needed.
  • Assist physicians in procedures and operate in ORs when required.
  • Prepare patients, gather history, and explain procedures.

Job Details

Our ECHO Lab is growing and we have Full‑time opportunities available with a $10,000 sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance.

Primary Responsibility

Perform vascular studies with occasional echocardiograms.

Schedule

The Hours of operation for ECHO are variable – Must be available from 7:30a – 5pm, flexible to work extended hours when needed.

Call

On call, which includes weekends and holidays. Weekend starts at 5:30pm on Friday and ends at 7:00am on Monday. Must be present/on‑site within 1 hour of call.

Travel

1-2 times a month, rotational – occasionally we travel with a portable ultrasound machine to a continuing care facility across town to perform echoes.

Registry

Multi‑credentialed sonographers must have 2 credentials: RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer through CCI) or RDCS (Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer through ARDMS) and 2. RVT or RVS.

Education

Graduate of an accredited Technical or Associates degree program in Radiology and 2 years’ professional experience with intermediate level echocardiography or vascular skills.

Desired Skills

MUST BE proficient in transthoracic echocardiography. Teach and share knowledge base with both fellows team members as well as participate in training Cardiology Fellows, and students during clinical rotations, familiarity with Philips iE33/EPIQ systems.

Job Summary

The Multi‑modality Sonographer performs basic to advanced ultrasound services. These may include abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts. This position examines the patient's clinical history to identify the examination's purpose. It frames the clinical questions the examination should answer and expands the examination as needed.

Essential Functions Of The Role
  • Perform multiple modality ultrasound procedures using various equipment and techniques. Make necessary measurements for accurate, high‑quality results.
  • Identify and define abnormalities specific to the procedure. Extend the examination scope appropriately, deviate from standard techniques when necessary. Correlate other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilize appropriate protection measures during procedures.
  • May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies to aid in complex procedures and reduce risk factors.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and obtain clinical history, including physical findings and lab data. Fit imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors. Explain the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answer questions.
  • Record statistics and perform daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
  • Act as a resource to other staff, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures and studies to optimize patient care.
  • Work closely with the ultrasound team to ensure quality processes and adherence to protocols. Assist with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.
  • Implement protocols as new technology evolves, and ensure implementation and adherence to system standards.
  • Ensure operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer's recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required.
Key Success Factors
  • Must be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed.
  • Must meet all qualifications for any two of these modalities: Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or small parts. Work a minimum of 25% of the time in the second modality. Pediatric and adult scopes are studied as separate specialties by certification.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation and techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each different specialty.
  • Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians and nurses.
  • Skilled in the utilization of computers and medical equipment.

Certification / License / Registration
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Must have TWO of the following: Adv Cardiac Sonographer (ACS), ARRT‑S Sonography (ARRT‑S), ARRT‑VI Interventional Rad (ARRT‑VI), Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK), Reg Congenital Cardiac Sono (RCCS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Ped. Echocardiography (PE) (RDCS‑PE), Reg Diag Med Sono‑Abdomen (AB) (RDMS‑AB), Reg Diag Med Sono‑Breast (BR) (RDMS‑BR), RDMS Fetal Echocardiography (RDMS‑FE), Reg Diag Med Sono‑OB/GYN (OB) (RDMS‑OB), RDMS‑Pediatric Sonography (PS) (RDMS‑PS), Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS), Registered Vascular Tech (RVT).
