Job summary

Penn State Health in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Staff Nurse, RN for a 0.90 FTE Evening shift on a 28-bed unit caring for LVAD and advanced heart failure patients. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care while coordinating with the medical team.

The role includes a mandatory Nursing degree progression plan within four years of hire and a January 2015 policy on continued education. A $3.00/hour evening shift differential applies and a $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license in the state of employment or a multistate license through the Compact.
  • Enrollment in a baccalaureate nursing degree program within one year of hire; completion within four years.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a designated patient group.
  • Develop written care plans including patient education and discharge planning.
  • Document care and collaborate with medical staff on patient care decisions.
  • Maintain appropriate patient safety and adherence to unit standards.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for providing assistance with various health care services, for obtaining specimens, for conducting routine lab studies of specimens, and for assisting with administrative functions such as coordinating patient flow and scheduling appointments and phone messages.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must meet current eligibility to sit for the exam with attainment of certification or registration through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistants within 90-days of employment date; or current active status as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistant certification required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must obtain BLS Certification within 6 months of employment date

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Previous outpatient experience preferred
