Job Summary :

To provide care that is patient and family centered in both inpatient and outpatient environments, exemplifying best practices, fostering relationship-based care, and maintaining the standards of professional exercise physiologists and nursing. Practice care guidelines are based on the ANA code of ethics, professional conduct, standards from the American Society of Exercise Physiologists, and regulatory agency standards, in collaboration with RNs and/or RTs.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

Specific to Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

  • Work with CR and PR staff, including RNs and Respiratory Therapists, to evaluate patients on admission, considering diagnosis, abilities, limitations, and comorbidities.
  • Create exercise prescriptions based on individual needs and goals through evaluation and observation.
  • Lead Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes, including stretches, resistance training, and use of exercise equipment.
  • Evaluate patients during each session by monitoring blood pressure, heart rate, perceived exertion, and physical symptoms to adjust the program accordingly.
  • Provide education to patients on heart-healthy lifestyles.
  • Assist with scheduling patients referred to Cardiac Rehab.
  • Other Responsibilities
  • Perform non-invasive cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures (e.g., ECG, rhythm strip, stress tests) under physician order after completing training and competency evaluation.
  • Record patient history relevant to testing or procedures.
  • Maintain departmental statistical and productivity records.
  • Participate as part of the cardiac fast team for inpatient units.
  • Use medical judgment considering patient age, diagnosis, and physical abilities.
  • Edit ECG and stress testing reports per policy.
  • Interact with patients and physicians in recording, reviewing, and reporting event recorder data.
  • Promote a patient safety-focused environment.
  • Follow departmental, hospital, and HR policies and procedures.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Utilize time and resources judiciously.
  • Support leadership in scheduling and supply management.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation for billing.
  • Assess patient progress before, during, and after exercise, and recommend appropriate referrals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in health-related field or Exercise Science.
  • At least one year of cardiology experience preferred if degree is in health-related field.
  • Area-specific education such as ACLS, BLS, etc., may be obtained upon hire and maintained.

Licensure (Preferred):

  • ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C)
  • ASEP Board Certified Exercise Physiologist (EPC)
