Job Summary :
To provide patient- and family-centered care in both inpatient and outpatient environments, exemplifying best practices, fostering relationship-based care, and maintaining the standards of professional exercise physiologists and nursing standards. Practice care guidelines are based on the ANA code of ethics, professional code of conduct, standards from the American Society of Exercise Physiologists, and regulatory agency standards, in collaboration with RNs and/or RTs.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform non-invasive cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures under physician order or supervision after training and competency evaluation: ECG, rhythm strip, heart monitor hook-up, treadmill stress test, nuclear stress test, stress ECHO, DOB echo, and nuclear test.
- Record short cardiopulmonary history through relevant questions related to testing or procedures.
- Maintain departmental statistical and individual productivity records.
- Participate in cardiac fast teams for inpatient units.
- Use medical judgment considering patient age, diagnosis, and physical abilities.
- Edit ECG and stress testing reports as per policy.
- Interact directly with patients and physicians in receipt, review, scanning, and reporting of event recorders.
- Promote a patient safety-focused environment.
- Follow departmental, hospital, and HR policies and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Fiscal: Use time, supplies, and equipment judiciously; support scheduling and supply changes; ensure accurate documentation for patient charges; record initial and daily assessment data; assess patient pre-, during, and post-exercise with appropriate referrals and recommendations.
- Quality: Engage in continuous quality improvement activities; participate in assessments and development of individualized care plans; contribute as a multidisciplinary team member; demonstrate interpersonal and observational skills to identify psychosocial issues; report on patient and program outcomes.
- Patient Satisfaction: Improve patient satisfaction, understand health behavior change theories, assess modifiable risk factors, and support lifestyle modifications using relationship-based care models.
- Patient Safety: Supervise exercise sessions, monitor responses, develop and adjust exercise prescriptions, report significant conditions immediately, and adhere to safety protocols.
- Professional Growth: Recognize limitations, seek assistance, participate in development initiatives, share knowledge, complete required education, and pursue learning opportunities.
- Customer Service: Demonstrate excellent patient relations, provide a professional environment, practice AIDET, promote teamwork, and offer holistic care to diverse populations.

Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or Exercise Science.
- At least one year of cardiology experience preferred if holding a health-related degree.
- Area-specific required education (e.g., ACLS, BLS) may be obtained upon hire and must be maintained.
Licensure Preferred:
- ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C)
- ASEP Board Certified Exercise Physiologist (EPC)
