Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a professional perfusionist to provide circulatory support during open-heart surgeries and long-term cardiac/pulmonary support. The role is highly technical and operates under the supervision of the Chief Perfusionist, with on-site work in Chapel Hill, NC.

Responsibilities include assisting in the operating room, equipment maintenance, quality improvement, and staff training on perfusion devices. A degree in Perfusion Technology and state licensure are required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of Perfusion Technology is required.
• BLS certification is required.
• North Carolina Perfusion License or Provisional License is required.

Responsibilities

• Assists surgeons and anesthesiologists in the operating room during open-heart surgery to maintain all patient temperatures and pressures as directed by physicians.
• Cleans equipment and has it serviced for any malfunctions observed.
• Contributes to continuous quality improvement focusing on customer satisfaction, outcomes, and cost.
• Provides patient and support staff training related to ancillary equipment.
• Reviews patient's history, physical and heart catheterization data prior to surgery to determine appropriate circuit required.
• Sets-up, processes, and disposes of cell saver supplies as outlined in the perfusion manual for autotransfusion.
