Job summary

The Santana Lab, within the Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology at UC Davis, School of Medicine, seeks up to one full-time Assistant Project Scientist to study cardiac pacemaking via cellular metabolism and biophysics.

The incumbent will contribute independently under supervision, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and participate in professional activities. Strong imaging and data analysis skills with Python/MATLAB are required.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physiology, biophysics, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or a related field.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in postdoc research or physiology, biophysics, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or a related field.
• Research experience in cardiac or cardiovascular physiology.
• Experience with fluorescence imaging of live excitable cells or tissues.
• Evidence of academic publications and conference presentations (first-author where applicable).
• Experience with quantitative analysis of imaging or electrophysiological data using Python or MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Obtaining and maintaining appropriate laboratory and safety protocols.
• Managing project budgets.
• Writing and submitting progress reports to funding agencies.
• Reviewing grants and manuscripts.
• Assist in writing proposals for funding and preparing reports as required.
• Participate in professional societies and conferences; present results.
• Coordinate seminars and laboratory meetings when appropriate.
