Job summary

Sentara Heart Hospital is seeking an Operating Room Attendant in Norfolk, VA. This part‑time daytime role supports OR readiness and patient transport, coordinating with anesthesia and OR staff.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent; OR experience is highly preferred and PCT experience is preferred to assist in patient positioning, supplies, and transportation tasks. A positive, team‑oriented approach is essential.

• PCT experience is preferred.

• Clean operating room suites between surgical procedures.
• Support anesthesia staff by stocking supplies, cleaning anesthesia machines, and transporting equipment.
• Transport specimens and blood products to the lab and stock formalin containers as needed.
• Assist in positioning of surgical patients under guidance of OR staff.
• Prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies and ensuring proper equipment is available.

Overview

Sentara Heart Hospital is seeking to hire a qualified individual to join our team as an Operating Room Attendant.

Responsibilities

• transportation of patients from inpatient/emergency room/ICU departments to the pre‑op holding area.
• cleaning of the operating room suites between surgical procedures.
• support anesthesia staff both in the operating room setting as well as ancillary departments by ensuring adequate stocking of anesthesia supplies in medication carts, the cleaning of anesthesia machines, and the transportation of anesthesia machines and carts.
• transport specimens and blood products to and from the lab as well as ensure proper stocking of various formalin containers used for specimen handling and transport.
• assist in the positioning of surgical patients with the guidance of professional OR staff.
• help prepare the operating room suite by the opening of sterile supplies onto the sterile field and ensuring the proper equipment is available in the room for the surgical procedure.

Education & Experience

• High School Grad or Equivalent (required)
• Operating Room experience is highly preferred.
• PCT experience is preferred.

Compensation

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits.

The base pay range for full‑time employment is $19.46 - $28.35 hourly.

Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on‑call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra‑shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.

Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
