General Summary of Position
Responsible for the assessment, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning and development programs that enhance associates' performance, promote professional development, or support the mission, vision, and SPIRIT Values of MedStar Health and the Department of Nursing. Activities include onboarding/orientation, competency management, education, professional role development, career coaching, and collaborative partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the achievement of department goals, adhere to policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards, and comply with regulations.
- Apply teaching techniques promoting critical thinking, clinical reasoning, decision-making, and evidence-based practice, incorporating adult learning principles.
- Coach nurses and associates, providing feedback for professional practice and advancement.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop relevant learning programs and serve as a liaison with academic institutions.
- Conduct educational activities to inform and teach, facilitating adoption of new procedures, technologies, and trends, with continuing education credits where appropriate.
- Plan and coordinate educational offerings considering regulatory requirements, quality, safety, and clinical advancement.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise and educational knowledge to develop effective learning programs.
- Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs, assessing learning needs through various data collection methods.
- Develop evaluation plans to measure effectiveness, involving learners in the process.
- Identify learning gaps, collaborate with leaders to promote critical thinking and competent care.
- Maintain knowledge of professional standards, current trends, and innovations; pursue ongoing learning.
- Address the learning needs of nurses and associates, fostering lifelong learning and career growth.
- Plan and conduct orientation for new personnel, ensuring competency and smooth transition.
- Implement competency validation programs, applying adult learning principles to assess and enhance staff skills.
- Support transition-to-practice programs for new nurses.
- Participate in quality improvement teams, meetings, committees, and community outreach.

Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Clinical Nursing, Nursing Education, or related field required.
- 3-4 years of progressive clinical nursing experience; staff development or continuing education experience required.
- Active MD RN License or Active Compact State RN license and BLS certification required.
Position hiring range: $87,318 - $157,289
