Qualifications

• Master of Science in Physics, Health Physics, Radiological Physics, Medical Physics, or related field required; PhD preferred.
• Texas License in Medical Physics specialty required.
• Board Certification by the American Board of Radiology or American Board Science of Nuclear Medicine or American Board of Health Physics or other nationally recognized medical physics board certification.

Responsibilities

• Provides expertise in Diagnostic Radiological Physics and Medical Nuclear Physics.
• Carries out the responsibilities and duties of the primary Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for both X-Ray Registration (Certificate of Registration/COR) and Radioactive Materials (RAM) licenses, serving as liaison to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
• Assists in development and evaluation of radiation safety policies, procedures and practices to minimize exposure.
• Oversees Equipment Performance Evaluations for x-ray equipment and other imaging equipment; troubleshoot and evaluate image quality.
• Performs dosimetry calculations and shielding calculations to ensure regulatory standards.
• Works with architects to optimize space with ALARA principles.
• Participates in quarterly reviews to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
• Collaborates with health physicist to investigate radiation incidents and take corrective action.
• Oversees Radiation Protocol Committees and Radiation Safety Committees meetings.
• Assists with accreditations through the American College of Radiology as needed.
• Oversees regulatory surveys and inspections.
• Coordinates acceptance testing of new imaging equipment and provides recommendations.
• Ensures safe care, adheres to Memorial Hermann policies and budgetary specifications.
• Promotes professional growth and development; serves as preceptor and mentor.
• Demonstrates commitment to compassionate, personalized experiences for patients and staff.
