Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a part-time EKG technician to join the Cardiovascular Diagnostics team. The role involves performing 12-lead EKGs, Holter monitoring preparation, and non-invasive cardiovascular testing, with emphasis on accuracy and patient safety.

The position requires a High School Diploma and 6 months to 1 year of EKG/healthcare experience or an EKG certificate with clinical internship. CPR/BLS certification within 6 months is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months to 1 year EKG/healthcare experience or completion of an EKG certificate program with clinical internship.

Responsibilities

• Perform 12-lead EKGs and other non-invasive cardiovascular tests.
• Ensure accurate results from 12-lead computerized electrocardiograms for cardiologists’ interpretation.
• Administer 12-lead EKGs to uncovered areas as needed.
• Identify and report severe electrocardiographic abnormalities.
• Promote patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives.
• Prepare patients for 24-hour Holter monitoring and event monitors when needed.
• Provide patients with instructions on arrhythmia monitor use.
• Edit and maintain EKG data and related records.
• Maintain up-to-date patient files and department logs.
• Perform routine EKG management system functions and backups.
• Maintain equipment functionality and report malfunctions.
• Keep work area clean, orderly, and safe.
• Process completed reports per department procedures.
• Perform routine HIS functions (ordering, charging, crediting).
• Document Performance Improvement monitors and related logs.
