Job summary

Montefiore is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Technician to support adult and geriatric patients under RN supervision. You will provide direct and indirect care, monitor cardiac rhythms, and ensure a safe, clean environment on the unit.

Responsibilities include collecting data, assisting with treatments, and coordinating with families and staff. Requirements include a state-approved nursing assistant certificate or 2 years direct care experience, PCT training, BLS, and ability to operate

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• PCT training program, competency based orientation and BLS.
• Graduate of state approved nursing assistant certificate program or 2 years direct care experience.
• Ability to use patient care equipment (BP cuff, scales, pulse oximeter, telemetry).
• Ability to perform phlebotomy, EKG and bedside glucose monitoring.
• Ability to operate pneumatic tube system.
• Ability to use Dietary Food Delivery system.
• English language reading, writing and speaking.

Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, assists the professional staff by performing a variety of paraprofessional and technical functions which contribute to the safety, care and comfort of adults and geriatric patients and their families. Provides direct and indirect patient care, technical skills and procedures, performs routine secretarial and clerical duties and participates in maintaining the environment. Provides continuous observation of cardiac monitor tracings of acute cardiac patients. Ensures proper functioning of cardiac monitoring equipment. Interprets and reports cardiac dysrhythmia and initiates emergency measures when potentially lethal dysrhythmia occur.

• Participates in maintaining patient's skin integrity. Assists patients with elimination needs.
• Collects patient data through observation, measurement, and data retrieval.
• Obtains specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Performs technical skills as defined by scope of practice and competency assessment process.
• Participates in the implementation of the treatment plan developed by the professional staff, patient, and family.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, and staff.
• Ability to set priorities, problems solve, use proper judgment in difficult situations and assist in emergency situations.
• Provides transportation services which support patient care activities.
• Performs activities to maintain a clean, safe and therapeutic environment.
• Performs general secretarial and clerical duties on the patient care unit.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training program, competency based orientation and Basic Cardiac Life Support.
• Graduate of state approved nursing assistant certificate program or 2 years experience as a direct care provider in a related clinical setting; or a combination of education and experience acceptable to the Director of Nursing.
• Ability to use patient care equipment such as but not limited to, sphygmomanometer, scales, pulseoximeter, isolettes, radiant warmer, telemetry monitoring/equipment, patient care equipment.
• Ability to perform technical procedures such as but not limited to, phlebotomy, EKG and bedside glucose monitoring.
• Ability to operate pneumatic tube system.
• Ability to use Dietary Food Delivery system.
• Ability to read, write and speak English; and use unit equipment - fax, phone, communication system and maintenance equipment.
