Montefiore Hudson Valley Collaborative in Bronx, NY is seeking a Cardiac Care Technician to assist in monitoring and caring for adults and geriatric patients on the night shift.

Under RN supervision, you perform paraprofessional tasks, monitor cardiac tracings, operate monitoring equipment, perform phlebotomy, EKGs, glucose checks, and support patient comfort and safety.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of Patient Care Technician training program and BCLS.
  • Graduate of state approved Nursing Assistant program or equivalent clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care on cardiac unit.
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and report dysrhythmias.
  • Assist with hygiene, nutrition, and comfort for adults and geriatric patients.
  • Perform technical procedures such as EKG and bedside glucose monitoring.
  • Operate monitoring equipment and telecommunication systems.
  • Maintain a safe, clean patient care environment.
  • Support nursing staff under RN supervision.

Provides direct and indirect patient care, technical skills and procedures, performs routine secretarial and clerical duties and participates in maintaining the environment. Provides continuous observation of cardiac monitor tracings of acute cardiac patients. Ensures proper functioning of cardiac monitoring equipment. Interprets and reports cardiac dysrhythmia and initiates emergency measures when potentially lethal dysrhythmia occur.RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides patient care in a manner which supports the patient's rights and dignity; initiates measures to provide for patient and family comfort. Meets hygiene and grooming needs of patients; assists in meeting the fluid and nutritional needs of patients. Provides and maintains a safe environment through preventive and intervention measures. Assists patient with pulmonary toilet. Provides care to patients requiring continuous electrical cardiac monitoring. Participates in maintaining patient's skin integrity. Assists patients with elimination needs. Collects patient data through observation, measurement, and data retrieval. Obtains specimens for laboratory analysis. Performs technical skills as defined by scope of practice and competency assessment process. Participates in the implementation of the treatment plan developed by the professional staff, patient, and family. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and staff. Ability to set priorities, problems solve, use proper judgment in difficult situations and assist in emergency situations. Provides transportation services which support patient care activities. Performs activities to maintain a clean, safe and therapeutic environment. Performs general secretarial and clerical duties on the patient care unit.REQUIREMENTS:* High School graduate or equivalent* Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training program, competency based orientation and Basic Cardiac Life Support.* Graduate of state approved nursing assistant certificate program or 2 years experience as a direct care provider in a related clinical setting; or a combination of education and experience acceptable to the Director of Nursing.* Ability to use of patient care equipment such as but not limited to, sphygmomanometer, scales, pulse oximeter, isolettes, radiant warmer, telemetry monitoring/equipment, patient care equipment.* Ability to perform technical procedures such as but not limited to, phlebotomy, EKG and bedside glucose monitoring.* Ability to operate pneumatic tube system.* Ability to use of Dietary Food Delivery system.* Ability to read, write and speak English; and use unit equipment - fax, phone, communication system and maintenance equipment.* Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, assists the professional staff by performing a variety of paraprofessional and technical functions which contribute to the safety, care and comfort of adults and geriatric patients and their families.
