Job summary

Sonesta International Hotels in New Orleans is seeking a friendly, guest-focused Captain to assist the Managers in overseeing dinner service across our restaurant operations. You will provide guests with top-tier service, knowledge of menus, and guidance to the dining team to ensure memorable experiences.

You’ll follow Brand standards, train and mentor staff, manage check-out procedures, and maintain a clean, organized service area.

Responsibilities

• Follow service guidelines according to Brand standards.
• Knowledge of all Food and Beverage menus.
• Presents menu, answers questions, and makes suggestions regarding food and service.
• Makes recommendations of food and beverage items according to guest preferences.
• Writes order on check or memorizes it; relays order to kitchen and serves courses.
• Observes diners to respond to requests and determine when meal is complete.
• Follows checkout and cash handling procedures as outlined in training.
• Keeps service area and tools clean and organized.
• Assists in training and mentoring new staff.
• Completes opening/closing checklists and sidework; follows schedules.

What This Role Is All About

The Captain is responsible for assisting the Managers in overseeing all aspects of Dinner service. Provides Guests with the finest service in the restaurant while creating a warm and friendly environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Follow service guidelines according to the Brand standards in the Service Manual
• Responsible for knowledge of all Food and Beverage menus
• Presents menu, answers questions, and makes suggestions regarding food and service
• Makes recommendations of food and beverage items according to guest preferences
• Writes order on check or memorizes it
• Relays order to kitchen and serves courses from kitchen and service bars
• Observes diners to respond to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed
• Follows proper check out procedures and proper cash handling procedures as outlines in the training material
• Must keep service area and tools clean and organized
• Responsible for returning all items to their zoned location
• Attends all ongoing training sessions
• Assist in training and mentoring new staff
• Must follow all prescribed systems of organization and cleanliness
• Must complete all before, during and after shift paperwork
• Responsible for following all opening and closing checklists and sidework
• Must follow all daily and weekly cleaning schedules

• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. The employee is expected to work in other areas of the hotel when needed to assist operations to perform job duties not necessarily contained in this job description.
