Job description

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Capital Projects Superintendent is responsible for the safe, efficient, and successful execution of capital projects within a mining operation. This role provides field leadership and construction oversight from project mobilization through commissioning and closeout, ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with approved scope, schedule, budget, quality standards, environmental requirements, and site safety expectations.

The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to coordinate construction activities and resolve field issues. The position requires a strong understanding of mining operations, heavy industrial construction, project controls, contractor management, and field execution.

Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day field execution of capital projects, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Provide construction leadership for projects involving mine infrastructure, processing facilities, mobile and fixed equipment, material handling systems, utilities, roads, water management, and other mining-related infrastructure.
  • Coordinate construction activities across multiple contractors, trades, engineering disciplines, and site departments.
  • Establish field priorities and ensure adequate resources, equipment, materials, and manpower are available to maintain project schedules.
  • Monitor construction progress against approved schedules, milestones, budgets, and project objectives.
  • Identify field constraints, construction risks, and potential schedule impacts and develop practical mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure projects are properly prepared for commissioning, startup, turnover, and operational handover.
  • Manage and oversee construction contractors, subcontractors, and specialty service providers.
  • Review contractor schedules, work plans, manpower requirements, productivity, and performance.
  • Coordinate contractor interfaces and resolve conflicts between trades, contractors, Operations, Maintenance, and other site stakeholders.
  • Ensure contractors comply with contract requirements, project specifications, quality standards, and site procedures.
  • Monitor contractor productivity and provide input regarding performance, change orders, claims, and payment milestones.
  • Participate in contractor selection, prequalification, scope development, bid evaluations, and contract negotiations as required.
  • Monitor project costs, commitments, quantities, and field changes in coordination with Project Controls and the Project Manager.
  • Identify potential cost overruns and schedule delays and communicate them promptly to project leadership.
  • Review and validate contractor progress quantities, invoices, and change-order requests.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, progress measurements, inspection records, punch lists, and turnover documentation.
  • Support forecasting, earned-value tracking, schedule updates, and project reporting.
  • Demonstrate visible and proactive leadership in safety and environmental performance.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with company policies, regulatory requirements, mine-site standards, and applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in safety meetings, field inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and corrective-action programs.
  • Ensure contractors maintain appropriate safety programs, training, permits, and procedures.
  • Stop or correct unsafe work and promote a strong culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Support environmental controls related to construction activities, including water management, erosion control, waste management, reclamation requirements, and permitting conditions.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.
