Job summary

Department of General Services (DGS) in Richmond, Virginia seeks a skilled Housekeeping Day Porter for the General Assembly Building and other current properties. Qualifications

• Ability to work schedule Monday through Friday, 7:30AM - 3:45PM.
• Perform various assigned cleaning/custodial tasks.
• Ability to work with others.
• Skilled in operating industrial cleaning equipment.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, equipment and chemicals for a variety of surfaces.
• Must follow safety practices when using cleaning chemicals and supplies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of high-traffic areas (lobbies, hallways, restrooms, breakrooms, entrances).
• Restock supplies (paper products, soap, sanitizer).
• Respond to spills, accidents, or urgent sanitation needs.
• Empty and relining trash/recycling receptacles; keep areas odor-free.
• Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms multiple times per shift.
• Dusting and spot-cleaning surfaces (doors, glass, counters, fixtures).
• Monitor building appearance and address fingerprints, debris, clutter.
• Assist with event setup and breakdown (chairs, tables, light cleanup).
• Report maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Provide customer-service-oriented support to staff and visitors.
