Job summary

The Department of General Services (DGS) in Richmond, VA is seeking an Evening Housekeeper to maintain the General Assembly Building and other facilities. You will perform a variety of cleaning and custodial tasks to ensure a clean, safe environment for tenants and visitors.

Responsibilities include routine cleaning, restocking supplies, handling spills, and supporting event setups. Prior experience with industrial cleaning equipment and safety procedures is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to work the specified schedule Monday through Friday, 3:30PM - 11:30PM, including some weekends and holidays.
• Experience with cleaning techniques, methods, materials, equipment and chemicals for various surfaces.
• Familiarity with safety practices when using cleaning chemicals in public facilities.
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and remain active for extended periods.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of high-traffic areas such as lobbies, hallways, restrooms, breakrooms, and entrances.
• Restock supplies including paper products, soap, sanitizer, and other consumables.
• Respond to spills, accidents, or urgent sanitation requests promptly.
• Empty and reline trash and recycling receptacles to keep areas clean and odor-free.
• Disinfect restrooms multiple times per shift to maintain hygiene standards.
• Dust, wipe, and spot-clean surfaces including doors, glass, counters, and fixtures.
• Monitor building appearance and address fingerprints, smudges, debris, and clutter.
• Support event setup and breakdown by arranging chairs, tables, or light cleanup.
• Report maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Provide customer-service-oriented support to staff and visitors.
