Job summary

American Water Co. seeks a seasoned Capital Investment Engineer to coordinate cross-unit capital programs, guide project deliveries, and manage multiple design and construction initiatives.

You will negotiate subcontracts, supervise field teams, and prepare bidding and contractual docs while ensuring budgets and schedules are met. The role requires a civil/environmental engineering background with 8+ years in CIP, and the ability to pass DoD background checks for access to Fort Belvoir.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience managing and implementing Capital Improvement Programs.
• Ability to pass a Department of Defense background check for access to the military installation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate capital investment program activities across business units.
• Provide overall guidance and support; assure timely, accurate project deliveries.
• Manage multiple capital planning, design, and construction projects.
• Negotiate subcontracts; ensure on-time delivery within budget.
• Supervise field and contract personnel to meet standards and schedules.
• Prepare technical, bidding, and contractual documents for capital projects.
• Establish budgets and monitor costs and schedules for medium to small projects.
• Provide technical engineering and operational expertise.
• Adhere to engineering standards and equipment recommendations.
