Our client, a leading metals manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Capital Projects Manager to lead major capital investments, plant expansion initiatives, manufacturing modernization projects, and engineering-driven operational improvements.
About the Role
This highly visible leadership position is ideal for a hands-on engineering professional with a proven track record of delivering large-scale capital projects within a steel, aluminum, foundry, rolling mill, casting, forging, or other heavy industrial manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will serve as a key member of the plant leadership team, driving strategic investments that improve capacity, safety, productivity, reliability, and profitability while supporting environmental and regulatory compliance objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead capital investment projects from concept development through commissioning and startup.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and business justifications for major capital expenditures.
- Manage facility expansions, capacity increases, equipment installations, technology upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
- Oversee engineering contractors, equipment suppliers, consultants, and construction activities.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and achieve expected returns.
- Partner with executive leadership to prioritize and execute strategic capital investment plans.
- Provide engineering leadership that supports safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, reliability, and production teams to identify performance improvement opportunities.
- Lead technical problem-solving and root cause analysis efforts for complex operational issues.
- Drive improvements in throughput, quality, equipment reliability, cost reduction, and process efficiency.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Operational Excellence methodologies throughout the organization.
- Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies, automation systems, and process enhancements.
- Identify opportunities for modernization and productivity improvements across plant operations.
- Support long-term capacity planning and growth initiatives.
- Utilize data analysis and statistical methods to support business decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
- Ensure all projects and engineering activities comply with environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure safe execution of all capital and construction projects.
- Partner with EHS leadership to mitigate operational and project-related risks.
- Ensure engineering standards, policies, and procedures align with industry best practices.
