Job summary

James Hardie, Wilmington site, seeks a CAPEX Project Engineer to lead capital and process-improvement initiatives that boost safety, capacity and reliability. You will partner with engineering, operations, maintenance, EHS, and finance to deliver projects on scope, on time, and within budget.

Requirements include a engineering degree and 5+ years in manufacturing project management, with strong communication and leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree Required (Engineering preferred).
• 5+ years of project management experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or capital project environments.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment installation, and material flow.
• Controls engineering experience (PLC, HMI, automation systems) is a strong plus.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a high-speed, high-accountability environment.
• Experience with budgeting, cost control, and capital project financial justification.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder-management skills.
• PMP certification, Lean/Six Sigma experience, or exposure to TPM is a plus.
• Ability to work on the plant floor and collaborate closely with operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end capital and operational improvement projects across the Wilmington site from concept through startup.
• Develop project scopes, feasibility assessments, cost estimates, schedules, and risk mitigation plans.
• Build capital project business cases and manage financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Manage contractor and project safety, regulatory compliance, and adherence to standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focusing on throughput, reliability, and cost reduction.
• Support long-term site planning through layout optimization and capacity expansion.
• Lead vendor selection, contract negotiations, and supplier performance management.
• Prepare project updates and executive-level reports on progress and risks.
