Job summary

MITRE is seeking a Capability Chief Engineer in Defensive Cyber Operations within the Cyber Operations Division. You will define and drive the technical strategy, lead capability development, and mentor staff while coordinating with sponsors and internal programs to deliver advanced SOCs, malware analytics, and adversary engagement.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, collaboration across teams, and stewardship of facilities and research initiatives.

Qualifications

Deep technical expertise in Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) with hands-on SOC, threat hunting, malware analysis, or related areas.
Ability to influence strategic decisions in complex multi-stakeholder environments.
Proven ability to learn and respond to new problems across domains.
Experience planning and presenting complex trade studies balancing cost and schedule.
Excellent written and verbal communication; mentoring of staff; on-site four days per week.

Responsibilities

Lead technical quality efforts and set standards within key department programs.
Drive capability development, infrastructure stewardship, and mentorship opportunities.
Collaborate with the Division CE and partners to ensure technical strength of the work program.
Coordinate cross-mission exchanges to enable reuse and accelerate delivery of proven approaches.
Bridge department leadership and work program leadership to align sponsor needs with strategy.
Provide direct sponsor contributions focusing on SOCs, threat hunting, and analytics.
