Job summary

MITRE seeks a visionary Capability Chief Engineer, Digital Investigations, to drive technical strategy and execution across digital investigations, forensics, and attribution. You will enable labs, frameworks, and staff mentorship, partnering with internal divisions and law enforcement stakeholders.

The role requires deep domain expertise, a Top Secret/SCI clearance, and a minimum of four on-site days per week at MITRE’s Massachusetts operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years with a Master’s; or 7 years with a PhD.
• Deep technical expertise and recognition in digital investigations.
• Experience working directly with federal law enforcement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mentoring experience.
• Active Top Secret/SCI/Polygraph clearance eligibility; U.S. citizenship required.
• On-site presence required: minimum 4 days a week.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical quality and standards within key department programs and labs.
• Collaborate with Division CEs and partners to shape content and reviews.
• Build awareness of capabilities across sponsor missions to enable reuse.
• Connect projects and SMEs to reduce duplication and accelerate delivery.
• Bridge department leadership with work program needs to inform strategy.
• Mentor staff and contribute to staff development.
