Job summary

MITRE Corporation seeks a visionary Capability Chief Engineer, Digital Investigations, to drive technical strategy and execution across digital investigations, forensics, and related capabilities.

You will partner with division managers and engineers to define capabilities, oversee lab infrastructure, and mentor staff, while guiding research priorities and sponsor-focused contributions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years with a Master’s; or a PhD with 7 years; or equivalent combination.
• Deep technical expertise and recognition in digital investigations.
• Experience working directly with federal law enforcement.
• Ability to influence strategic decisions in complex environments.
• Proven ability to learn across multiple domains and adapt to new problems.
• Experience planning, executing, and presenting complex trade studies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; articulate technical concepts clearly.
• Mentoring experience across various staff levels.
• Proficiency in both virtual and live presentations of complex issues.
• Active Top Secret clearance eligibility; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical quality efforts and standardization across key programs.
• Direct capability development and investment stewardship for labs and frameworks.
• Collaborate with division chiefs and sponsors to align capabilities with mission needs.
• Foster cross-mission exchanges to share best practices and reduce duplication.
• Provide technical mentorship and staff development across the department.
• Provide differentiated technical contributions directly to sponsors.
