Job summary

Canopy Chicago Central Loop is seeking a Director of Operations to partner with the General Manager and lead all hotel operations. You will manage revenue, marketing, sales, guest experience, budgeting, and HR initiatives to drive profitability and guest satisfaction.

This full-time role requires strong leadership, clear communication, and the ability to analyze financial reports, develop pricing strategies, and ensure compliance with policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in hospitality required.
• 4+ years of leadership, communication, and customer service experience.
• Financial knowledge including budgeting, P&L, and variance analysis.
• Relevant certifications (Alcohol Awareness, General Manager) as required by franchise.
• Adaptable to a fast-paced environment and on-call as needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all hotel revenue streams and develop effective marketing and pricing strategies to maximize profitability across departments.
• Drive sales through relationship-building and proactive account management, while promoting hotel policies and delivering exceptional guest service.
• Prepare budgets, monitor financial performance, and produce reports. Lead HR initiatives focused on employee motivation, development, and retention.
• Protect hotel assets through maintenance programs and quality reviews, ensuring compliance with all laws and company policies.
• Set clear roles and goals, host regular meetings, and maintain open lines of communication to drive team performance and meet corporate objectives.
• Maintain a polished, professional image, adhere to attendance guidelines, and be flexible for additional duties.

Teaming up with the General Manager, the Director of Operations is the go-to leader who keeps the hotel running smoothly! You’ll keep costs in check, raise the bar on quality, and inspire your team to deliver unforgettable guest experiences. Your days will be filled with crunching numbers, reviewing business stats, and making sense of financial reports—but there’s plenty of action too! You’ll help shape winning sales and marketing strategies, making sure the hotel shines and stands out from the crowd.

KEY SKILLS/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Revenue & Marketing Leader: Oversee all hotel revenue streams and develop effective marketing and pricing strategies to maximize profitability across departments.
• Sales & Guest Experience Champion: Drive sales through relationship-building and proactive account management, while promoting hotel policies and delivering exceptional guest service.
• Financial & HR Manager: Prepare budgets, monitor financial performance, and produce reports. Lead human resources initiatives focused on employee motivation, development, and retention.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree or hotel hospitality experience required; minimum 4 years of related experience or equivalent education.
• Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills; attention to detail with planning, organization, and computer proficiency.
• Mathematical and general accounting knowledge, including budgeting, profit/loss, and variance analysis.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Alcohol Awareness, General Manager) as required by franchise.
• Adaptable to a fast-paced environment and willing to be on call as needed.

PROPERTY INFORMATION:
Formerly the headquarters of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, the building features a dual-branded hotel with a 135-room Hilton Garden Inn and a 215-room Canopy by Hilton. A National Historic Landmark dating back to 1904, the property is located in the heart of downtown Chicago across the street from Willis Tower. Together the Dual branded property has a total of 350 rooms and suites. The first floor will feature lobbies, amenities, and conference rooms. The existing 15th floor will be modified with its roof removed in its entirety to build a new 16th floor space with an independent restaurant / lounge. The project will also consist of renovating six elevators, as well as the addition of a seventh.
