Job summary

Camp Arcadia in Otisfield, Maine, is seeking a Canoeing Activity Counselor to lead our waterfront adventures, teach paddling fundamentals, and serve as a positive mentor to girls ages 7–17 during a busy summer on Pleasant Lake.

You’ll teach safety protocols, inspect gear, demonstrate strokes, and coordinate fun waterfront events such as regattas and War Canoe races while ensuring equipment is maintained and stored properly.

Qualifications

• Lifeguard and CPR certification required.
• Ability to teach campers aged 7–17.
• Proficiency in canoeing techniques and safety.
• Willingness to lead day trips and overnight canoe excursions.
• Full summer availability mid-June to mid-August in Otisfield, ME.

Responsibilities

• Teach 1-hour canoeing activity periods per day for 4 periods (as per schedule).
• Instruct campers on safety, equipment care, and paddling strokes.
• Organize and participate in waterfront events like regattas and War Canoe races.
• Ensure canoe fleet and gear are well-maintained and stored safely.
• Provide lifeguarding support for the waterfront program.

Are you ready to trade your morning alarm for the call of a loon? We’re looking for a Canoeing Activity Counselor to lead our waterfront adventures at Camp Arcadia.

Our canoeing program is a camp favorite, offering everything from quiet morning paddles on the glassy waters of Pleasant Lake to high-energy "canoe-over-canoe" rescue drills. As a counselor, you’ll be more than just an instructor; you’ll be a guide helping girls master the art of the J-stroke, navigate the shoreline, and prepare for exciting out-of-camp trips. If you love the water and want to spend your summer in a red canoe under the Maine sun, this is your spot.

What You’ll Do:

• Teach 4 one-hour canoeing activity periods per day.
• Instructcampers on safety, equipment care, and various paddling strokes.
• Organize and participatein fun waterfront events like regattas and "War Canoe" races.
• Ensurethe canoe fleet and gear are well-maintained and stored safely.
• Providelifeguarding support for the overall waterfront program.

What You’ll Need:

• Paddling Prowess: Proficiency in canoeing techniques (strokes, maneuvers, and safety).
• Instructional Skills: Ability to teach campers of all ages (7–17) and skill levels.
• Waterfront Safety: Must be Lifeguard and CPR certified (we can help you find a certification course if needed!).
• Trip Ready: Comfortable assisting with or leading day trips and overnight canoe excursions.
