Responsibilities

The Cancer Center Triage RN is responsible for receiving incoming calls from Hematology/Oncology patients and their caregivers, physicians, and healthcare organizations. Using the nursing process and EMR-embedded triage protocols, the nurse will assess the patient, facilitate communication with providers, and offer appropriate options for care. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the healthcare continuum.

Qualifications

Education

• Required: Graduate from an approved RN program
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing

Experience

• Required: 3 years Hematology/Oncology and/or related experience
• Preferred: Ambulatory care experience, Telephone triage experience, Emergency Department experience

License(s)

• Required: Valid and current Texas RN license, BLS, ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy, Fundamentals of Administration or ONS, Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate (Course within 3 months of employment)
• Preferred: OCN Certification, ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate

Skills

• Required: Experience with EMRs, Basic PC skills including Windows OS
• Preferred: Epic experience

Other

• Required: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
