Job Overview

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented intern to join our Energy Conservation and Sustainability team. This internship provides hands‑on experience supporting agency‑wide sustainability efforts across 25 state‑run institutions.

Responsibilities
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data to support sustainability reporting
  • Conduct research and benchmark against peer organizations
  • Assist with the development of sustainability plans, reports, and presentations
  • Communicate with internal and external staff, partners, and stakeholders
  • Maintain spreadsheets, dashboards, and organized documentation
  • Support the Energy Conservation & Sustainability Administrator, Recycling & Compost Coordinator, and Data Analytics Specialist with day‑to‑day tasks
  • Take notes and prepare materials for recurring meetings
  • Track sustainability metrics through JadeTrack, RTS, and other data platforms
  • Assist with Environmental Literacy education platform tracking, communication, training, and improvements
  • Create institution‑specific reports to enhance communication and transparency
  • Support sustainability project planning, management, and implementation efforts
  • Research grant opportunities, prepare application materials, and present findings that align with departmental mission and vision
  • Participate in Green Team activities and support sustainability‑related programming for incarcerated individuals
  • Prepare quarterly sustainability newsletters and monthly Green Team challenges
  • Assist with and attend Sustainability Advisory Committee meetings
  • Conduct waste audits at institutions and collaborate with the Recycling Coordinator to improve waste‑diversion efforts
  • Travel may be required to institutions across the state
Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in a college or university and in good academic standing (2 years completed and above preferred)
  • Construction, Engineering, Business, or Information Technology major; knowledge of TechNet or SQL queries a plus
  • Construction/maintenance experience preferred
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and present research data
  • Independent worker requiring little guidance
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office
  • Must provide transcripts, current fee statement, or class schedule for verification
