Job summary

Santa Clara University is seeking a Recycling/Waste Removal Technician to maintain the campus waste and recycling collection program across all facilities, including administrative buildings, residence halls, and food service areas.

The role uses large landfill and recycling compactors, a cardboard baler, and requires the ability to lift up to 65 lbs, operate a forklift, and coordinate with outside vendors for waste removal, with a focus on sustainability and dependable service.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid California driver's license.
• Preference for at least two years of experience with waste collection and diversion.
• Ability to operate a forklift, compactor and bailer.
• Ability to frequently lift and move up to 65 lbs.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions in English.

Responsibilities

• Collection and separation of Campus landfill, recycling and compost from across the campus facilities including administrative buildings, residence halls and food service facilities.
• Use of large landfill and recycling compactors for waste collection as well as a cardboard baler.
• Clean and maintain all waste collection sites; no debris or large spills should remain in the collection enclosures.
• Coordinate with outside vendors for standard and special removal of solid waste and recycled materials, compost, confidential paper shredding, ewaste and metal waste.
• Support customer requests for specialty waste removal and pickups.
• Assist with maintenance, upkeep and inventory of all waste management equipment and vehicles.
• Propose process improvements contributing to campus sustainability.
• Support students, staff and faculty in areas relating to recycling and solid waste removal and education.
