Job summary

University of Washington in Seattle seeks a Campus Utilities Pipefitter/Steamfitter to support safe and continuous operations of high energy thermal distribution systems across the campus. You will troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and operate steam and chilled water distribution, natural gas lines, and related equipment, while following safety procedures and collaborating with other trades.

This role requires journey-level status or apprenticeship completion and offers a stable, full-time

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a plumber/pipefitter/steamfitter, OR full journey status as a plumber/pipefitter/steamfitter in a union, OR four years' applicable work experience.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, inspect, operate, and repair underground high energy thermal energy distribution systems, including pipelines, main service entrances/headers, meter-sets, PRVs, steam traps, safety valves, valves and condensate receivers.
  • Monitor and operate isolation valves and metering systems to control and regulate the flow of thermal energy; isolate and route steam, condensate, and chilled water for maintenance and repair.
  • Prepare thermal energy distribution systems to be worked on by contractors, including de-energizing steam and condensate, venting and verifying zero-energy, issuing LOTO procedures, and monitoring contractor procedures.
  • Repair and replace steam expansion joints and isolation valves; troubleshoot fail-to-hold situations.
